  • What is the difference of waxing and sugaring?
Sugar paste is made of only three organic ingredients - sugar, lemon, and water. It is professionally manufactured to be the perfect consistency. It is only warm, never hot and will not burn your skin. On the other hand, wax is full of chemicals, additives, resins, and harsh materials that can irritate and burn the skin. With sugaring, the paste is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth and then removed with the direction of hair growth. This results in a smoother hair removal process, with less hair breakage and ingrown hairs. Sugaring naturally exfoliates and conditions the skin. It can help improve conditions such as keratosis pilaris, eczema, psoriasis, ingrown hairs, and hyperpigmentation.
  • Can I be sugared while on Accutane or acne medications?
This is a big no no. Acne medications such as Accutane, Retinol, Differin, topical creams, etc. are skin-thinning and can cause your skin to tear easily. If you are currently or have been on Accutane within the last 6 months you can not be sugared. Accutane can cause SEVERE lifting of the skin that can permanently damage and scar your skin. Once you are past the 6 month mark, please consult with your physician before being sugared and we will do a patch test before your service to ensure your skin does not react negatively. For clients that use other skin-thinning creams or medications, please discontinue use for at least 30 days before you are sugared. Please consult with your physicain before being sugared and we will do a patch test before your service to ensure your skin does not react negatively.
  • Is there anyone who is not a candidate for sugaring?
The following are contraindications to sugaring: -Accutane or skin-thinning medications -varicose veins -uncontrolled diabetes -damage to the integrity of the skin -open or pustular skin lesions -intolerance to citric acid or sugar
  • How long does sugaring last?
On average, about 4-6 weeks. Some of us grow hair faster or slower than others and the area that is being sugared can also vary your results. In general, the more often you get sugared, the longer it will last over time with less and less hair coming back in each time. After the 3rd sugaring session is when most clients really notice the permanent hair reduction.
  • Can I get sugared while I am on my period?
Yes! You just need to be able to wear a tampon and tuck the string in, or wear a Diva Cup. Your skin may feel more sensitive during this time, so you can take an Advil or Tylenol if you would like before your appointment (whichever you normally use).
  • How long does the hair need to be?
The perfect length for sugaring is 1/4" or the length of a grain of rice. This is usually 10-14 days growth from the last time you shaved, 4 weeks from your last wax, or 4-6 weeks from your last sugar. If the hair is too short, we might not be able to remove them all. If the hair is too long, it may be more painful for you.
  • Can I be sugared while I am pregnant?
Absolutely! Sugaring is completely organic and safe for all the mama's to be. We will just book a little extra time for you as you may be extra sensitive.
  • Is sugaring painful?
While no form of removing hair from the root can be painless, this is much better than waxing! Your first sugar treatment will be the most uncomfortable, but is considerably less painful than waxing and there are a few reasons for this. Sugar paste does not adhere to live skin cells, only the hair and dead skin. The sugar is flicked off in the direction of hair growth, as opposed to waxing which pulls the hair in the opposite direction of growth. This allows for a smoother removal of hair and prevents breakage.
